I was surprised by this book, mostly in a good way. It is very romantic in a clumsy and sweet kind of way. The main character is a good narrator and describes his feelings With funny and Nice comparisons and examples. This book is just so enjoyable. What I found strange is that the main character, Nate, has a rather rare ability - he can see and talk to dead People. This ability gives him lots of troubles, like With his mother and in School where People think he's a freak. I thought this book would be a fantasy novel With some YA romance. But it's more the other way around. A YA romance/Slice of life book With some fantasy, if that's what you'd Call it. Nate's ability provides the book With a lot of humour and individuality, as it is unique. But I thought that the main plot would build on Nate's rare ability, like parhaps he would have to save his Family, his friends or his town With the help from his gift. Or maybe some bad guys would cause problems for him because of his ability. Maybe he would have to solve som kind of mystery concerning murder or something. It's nothing that major. This is a great story about a boy who has some rare quircks and lives With his aunt in a small town where few People Accept him. Then a New boy arrives, James. And James is different. He doesn't care that others think Nate is weird. He wants to be Nate's friend (and parhaps more?). The plot seemed a little unclear to me, but that just made is more exciting, and the book had a really Nice flow. Highly reccomend this one!WARNING! Some might think of this as a SPOILER so here's an ALLERT!
What I love about this book is the amazing friendship between Nate and James, and the way Nate shows us his life at School. We know Nate as a cool and kinda cocky guy With a lot of funny comments up his sleeve, yet at School he changes, and even though he doesn't want to let the bullies affect him, they do. And that's a great description of how many Young People might feel at School. I also love the romance and the way the boys Discover Things together. It's clumsy and werid and very, very sweet as well as realistic.
I also enjoyed the talking-to-ghost part of this book. Like James's dead Brother, David. He made me laugh and cry a lot. And all the randome dead People, like the janitor at Nate's School. Loved this book!

A Boy Worth Knowing edition by Jennifer Cosgrove Romance eBooks Reviews
A very nice boys-gay romance story with -finally!- a touch of fantasy genre in it.
Nate, had the ability to see ghosts and talk to them. His own mother had kicked him out of the house for that and lives now with his aunt. His social life is inexistent and in school he's just crazy Nate; an isolated outcast. Add to that, Nate is gay, but to him this seems to be the least of his problems. Things change though, when a new boys comes in class, and sits right next to Nate. To his own amazement, Nate discovers that his is capable of falling in love after all. But James is out of reach because he's into to girls, and starts dating a girl that uses to make Nate's life a living hell. But, Jame's dead brother, tells Nate to give his brother a change. There's more under what people show in public. Nate has to decide play it cool and torment himself, or spit out the truth and see how things will go?
A romantic novel with fast pacing, and an interesting twist of the protagonist talking to ghost. The mixture of gay romance with fantasy works well. All in all, a quick read to make your heart remember some of the bitter-sweetness of high-school years, and a pang of sorrow mixed with joy for your heart. To me, it was worth its money and wish to see more coming in the future by the author.
A Boy Worth Knowing is a charming and solid gay coming of age/coming out story. I was worried at first that the paranormal aspects of this story would be too much for my tastes, that they would stretch the reality of the core coming of age story. But they do not. This book is perhaps 90% gay YA tale and 10% paranormal. And the paranormal is light, nonintrusive, and actually serves to move the story along nicely. The characters of Nate and James are sweet kids, one gay and one bi (I've been encountering many more bi characters in more recent gay fiction). Their story of falling in love is very well done. I strongly recommend this book, even if paranormal is not usually in your repertoire.
First, let me say that unless I really like a book a lot, I won't do a review because I don't want to hurt an authors's feelings. So, if most of my reviews are good, that's why. I read a lot more books than I do reviews for. That being said, this is one of those books. I won't rehash the plot but most of the characters are people I would like to know - except for Nates' mother. She should be ashamed of herself and I was happy with Nate's conversation with her at graduation. Being a teenager isn't easy these days. (Has any generation had it easy? Probably not. I remember my teenage years) Add in a very small town, Nate's special gift or ability or curse (your choice) and it's a wonder he grew into such a wonderful young man. Give this book a try. If this is Ms Cosgroves' first outing, I hope it's not her last with this subject.
